OVERVIEW
Background
EZVIZ is an app for smart home devices. In this project, our team was responsible for redesigning the existing app with a focus on improving the user experience of using the C1C Camera, and our target user group was people in need of senior people monitoring.
The goal of this design was to:
-
Make key features easier to navigate for return users
-
Make the app easier to learn for new users
A lot of seniors live alone by themselves.
The target users are children of seniors, who have needs of using this app to keep an eye on parents more easily, so that they can ensure their safety and get notified immediately if there's an emergency.
Use Cases
-
Regular check-in with the elderly
-
When emergency happens, the user can get an immediate alert
-
When there's a need to reflect what has happened, the user can search for records during specific time
IDENTIFY PAIN POINTS
Inquiry for Improvement
We conducted market research and collected reviews from a variety of platforms, and found that:
There have been lots of confusion and frustration among the users, especially new users, when they are using the product.
A lot of users have complained about the complexity and inconvenience of using the app.
User Tests
To better understand users' needs, we launched remote usability tests among 12 users to identify the pain points.
Each user was asked to complete several tasks using the current app with a device set up, and then we would conduct interviews to ask them issues they had during the process.

Audit the Flow
How to make live video and view records features more accessible and intuitive?
EXPLORATIONS
Define Success
The project should be focusing on four flows: homepage navigation, real-time video streaming, video history searching, and recorded video viewing.

FINAL SOLUTION
Real-time Video
-
We kept the quick access from home page to the real-time video.
-
The most commonly used function - talk, is centered and color-coded.
-
Recorded videos are hidden in the "View Summary" section at the bottom.
Search and Watch Recordings
-
Users can now access records directly from search card & real-time video, while the only access was through real-time before.
-
We combined the video list and view specific videos through a simple switch to reduce redundant steps.
-
We simplified the progress bar and made it less confusing.
